There is a saying (or a TikTok meme) that your outfit should be interesting via shape, color, or texture. I have not figured out texture yet, but it recently dawned on me that it is much easier to experiment with color rather than shape. For instance, when experimenting with shape, you need to consider if a capri pant would fit you well and work with your body shape.
In my own style search, I once made a style mood board, and by looking at it, I realized that almost every single outfit featured color. All the while, I used to focus on neutrals and especially black in my purchases by inertia. This realization led me to make one of my style resolutions: to use more color in my outfits and, at the same time, limit black purchases this year.
