First Look at Tibi Spring / Summer 2027

At this point, the annual Tibi runway show at NYFW feels almost like a celebration of the brand. And a celebration it is: next year, Tibi turns 30, which is an insane level of longevity for a fashion brand and a huge accomplishment for founder Amy Smilovic, who has elevated it to something of a cult status. This weekend the brand presented its Spring / Summer 2027 collection and here’s what caught my eye

Western Influences

Actually, I did not catch this at first, but then I saw it on Laura’s Instagram and could not unsee it. The collection definitely had a strong Western influence, with the shoes, studs, and metal details. The Western interpretation is super modern, though, so if it is your cup of tea, this is an amazing collection to choose from. It is no surprise that the collection was designed in Nashville with influences from Elvis and Dolly Parton.

Big Shoulders

It is interesting to see a number of designs with big shoulders - not regular big shoulders, as in the Liam draped ones, but more exaggerated ones. It reminds me of the 80s trend on Instagram right now, where everyone is showing their looks from the 1980s. If you love this kind of silhouette, there are are many interpretations of this look in the collection.

Femininity

I found the collection quite feminine (for Tibi), especially some of the dresses and the fringe skirts. It is, of course, still very modern, but certain looks feel more traditionally feminine to me.

Pastel + Black

This is a styling trick I will definitely use. Amy has always taught that Ring 4 colors, including pastels, work really well with the muddier Rings 2 and 3. Now she has paired pastel colors with black, which I have also been seeing at fashion weeks, especially pink and black.

As the fashion crowd moves away from quiet luxury and back towards more color, this feels like a great styling trick. I really like how black makes pastels look less childish, and it is such an easy combination to try at home.

The Strange Color Combinations

This is what I love most about Tibi. Burgundy and pale yellow has been a color combination for a while, but when you make the yellow brighter and a bit greenish and the red more of a dark brick red rather than burgundy, it suddenly feels really fresh and magical. I loved seeing these combinations, and this is probably the area of the collection most likely to make its way into my own wardrobe.

Pants Get Narrower, Shoes Match the Pants

The trouser trend seems to be heading back towards narrower styles, and Tibi is no exception. To balance the oversized tops, the pants become long and elongated, sometimes continuing visually into a matching shoe.

I still have narrower pants from before, so I will see whether I can reuse them rather than buy something new just to take part in this trend.

Waists are Getting Extra Low

This seems to be a broader trend right now: oversized or very long tops paired with a waistline that sits really low - if you can still call it a waistline.

To be fair, Tibi has always played with this proportion. Even their cocoon sweaters and sweatshirts often made the tops and bottoms meet quite low, sometimes below the hips. This time, they are taking it to the next level with an extra belt placed really low. It opens up some interesting styling possibilities.

Details, Details, Details

Tibi is a master of details, which makes its garments feel almost pre-styled. You can put on a top and a pair of pants and go about your day looking put together, rather than spending time styling everything with jewelry and accessories.

This is a huge part of the brand’s appeal, and they achieve it through meticulous attention to construction and detail. It is pure delight to look closely at certain garments and see how they are made - for example the texture on this skirt and the dual color top in this look.

The downside is that these very distinctive details can also make you get bored of certain pieces faster than you might with something more classic. For example, I no longer love their asymmetric pocket placement as much because I wore my Brancusi pieces so much. But at the same time, those details are exactly what make getting dressed feel so effortless.

Finally, More Liams

This suit, which looks almost like a silky nylon version of the Liam, caught my attention too. What a good color, and what beautiful movement. I loved it.

As usual, Tibi delivered a great collection that feels very much in line with the brand’s ethos. I will love seeing these pieces on Tibi fans, and I am already looking forward to seeing them hit the store next spring.
