I recently started seeing announcements that skinny jeans will be back in style for 2025. They disappeared from the fashion radar rather quickly a few years ago, and now there are posts touting their comeback. I wasn’t in a rush to buy a new pair (I probably still have some stashed in my wardrobe), but when my mother-in-law offered me her Sezane skinny jeans - which didn’t work for her - I thought, “Why not?” After all, I used to love them back in the day.

When I got home, I decided to do a little try-on experiment. First, I tried to recall how we used to style skinny jeans. I checked a Who What Wear post and watched a Styled by Sally video for inspiration. It seems the general trend is to pair them with something oversized on top - be it a blazer, coat, or a oversized knit. So, let’s dive in!

Skinny Jeans + Oversized Knit

The first stop? Oversized knits. I tried the Tibi shoe hack - pushing my Bronsons lower inspired by by.dafne and they actually looked quite good. The jeans looked okayish, but my eye still needs a bit more time to adjust to this style.

All old: Tibi shoes, Sezane jeans, Robi Agnes sweater, The Curated bag

I then tried another oversized sweater, also from Robi Agnes. I recalled that tall riding boots used to work really well with slim bottoms, but for some reason, I didn’t like the look this time around. So I switched to a pair of Chelsea boots, but the proportions were still off - the boots looked huge compared to the skinny jean ankles.

Both: Sezane jeans, Robi Agnes sweater. Left: Flattered boots (old). Right: Icepeak boots.
